The 25th edition of Halifax Pop Explosion kicks off tonight with a double-decker launch party at the Seahorse Tavern and Marquee Ballroom.

Upstairs at The Marquee, things will get loud as Sub Pop torch-carriers METZ headline on the heels of their latest album, Strange Peace. METZ will be joined by local slippergazers Not You, pop punk trio Crossed Wires, and the “scrappy and melodic” rock of Beauts.

Downstairs at the Seahorse Tavern, the self-described “Asian diasporic and Indigenous art cult”, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan will close out the night. YT//ST’s dark psychedelic sounds and performance art will be preluded by Hamilton’s alt folk trio Elliott Brood, the “the weird 50’s guitar washout music” of Aron D’Alesio, and Toronto’s multi-instrumentalist Lou Canon.
