This weekend Montreal two-piece Solids are paying a routine visit to their Fog Friends with a Saturday night show in St. John’s. Xavier Germain Poitras and Louis Guillemette have toured here twice before but some things have changed since their last stop on the island. I caught up with Xavier and Louis at Halifax Pop Explosion to find out about what’s been going on with the band.

“The Oldest Women’s Self Defence Organization in Canada” is a status that not only speaks to the credibility and effectiveness of Wen-Do as a Women’s Self Defence form, but also to it’s relevancy and importance as a thriving source of empowerment for women in modern society.
The practice of Wen-Do is alive and well in Newfoundland & Labrador under the guidance of Renee Sharpe, a self-described “32 year old punker, welder, feminist and Wen-Do Women’s Self Defence instructor.”

There’s a signature thickness in Pet Vet’s tone and a certain fuzz that finds a comfortable place in a warm creaseless and rich rounded signal, with necessary blanket holes that expose the jagged treads of teething guitars that fight to cut through, but are kept tastefully bedded amongst the deep pocket rhythm.
