“Best Kind, How Ya Doin’?’: St. John’s Reacts to Rush in 1987
Upon the announcement of Rush’s 1987 Hold Your Fire Tour, the legendary Canadian prog rock unit had no idea they were about to induce an outcry from the Atlantic region of their home country. Atlantic Canadian rock fans responded loudly in their demand that Rush perform in their provinces, and respectfully so, Rush abided with an amendment of their initial itinerary.
Halifax radio station Q104 collected a petition of 24,000 signatures in a successful effort to get Rush to their city.
After adding extended dates to answer the plea of their diehards, Rush’s 1987 tour kicked off early with two shows at the Memorial Stadium in St. John’s, NL, followed by dates in Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia, as well as Moncton, New Brunswick.
On Rush’s R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour DVD, a pretty amazing segment was hidden as an easter egg: a MuchMusic video of St. John’s fans reacting to the 1987 Rush visit.
That guy in the weed shirt is somebody’s uncle and we wanna know who.
