Track Premiere: “Letter To My Son” by David R. Elliott
In 2015, David R. Elliott released Sunshine and marked a pivotal point in his musical craft with a cherry picked collection of tracks spanning 7 years of Saint John, NB bred songwriting. Now, exactly two years later, Elliott is back with a lean and focused followup entitled Strawberry Grass on his own Working Class Records imprint.
Currently residing in Halifax, NS, David R. Elliott continues to use what he describes as a “unique perspective anchored in a childhood split evenly between rural and urban poverty” to shape his eclectic spin on earnest roots-based songwriting steeped in Atlantic Canadiana. With Elliott’s musical outlet stretching into new shapes of style and arrangement, the 9 song album Strawberry Grass threads a narrative “based on the experiences of Elliott’s father as a working class Saint Johner trying to navigate work, love and family.”
Strawberry Grass was recorded on two-inch reel-to-reel by Mike Trask at Memramcook Recording Company in January 2017, and the album features instrumentation from Christien Belliveau (Backyard Devils, Willie Stratton) Evan Matthews (Devarrow, Dance Movie, Jay Arner)and Marc Doucet (Garrett Mason).
