Crossed Wires Announce Spring Tour, Share Video for “New Year”
From one spring to another, Halifax trio Crossed Wires have dropped a batch of tour dates, as well as a seasonally appropriate music video, to followup their 2016 False Spring EP.
Since their 2014 self-titled debut, Crossed Wires have been establishing an infectious blend of pop punk and grungy, fuzzed out J Mascis-esque power pop. Wielding another four bonafide anthems recorded by Chad Peck (Kestrels, We Need Secrets), Crossed Wires presented the False Spring EP in 2016, which has recently been repressed on cassette just in time for their newly announced spring 2017 tour.
Along with the cassette reissue of an EP that the band says “reflects on the challenges of living in a small town, the bitterness of winter, and promises of spring”, Crossed Wires are further thawing out the path for their April tour with a new video for the False Spring closing track, “New Year“.
The “New Year” video, produced by Tweed Films, offers the all too familiar sight of snow buried streets and slushy sidewalks under the deceptively cold winter sun. The video winks at the lingering annoyances of our harsh Atlantic winters as we follow an on-foot journey that effectively reflects such lyrics as “ice covered dirty asphalt; snow banks, brown grass and road salt”.
The cold stroll of the “New Year” video comes to an end with the warm vibes of a house show. Onlookers stand around sipping beer from red plastic cups while watching Crossed Wires jam out in a basement. Some of the great house show antics tastefully peppered throughout the video feature kegs of beer, powdered doughnuts, and someone trying to find their boots in a big pile of Blundstones.
