UFC Signs Newfoundland Featherweight Gavin “Guv’nor” Tucker
Hailing from Ship Cove, Newfoundland & Labrador, 30 year old Gavin “Guv’nor” Tucker has been competing in the world of mixed martial arts out of Halifax, Nova Scotia since 2011. As of his most recent 37 second knockout victory over Chris Coggins at Extreme Cage Combat 25 at the Halifax Forum in July, 2016, the Guv’nor holds a 9-0-0 (Win-Loss-Draw) record. Of his 9 sanctioned MMA bouts with promotions like Extreme Cage Combat, Elite 1 and East Coast Fight Productions, Tucker has had his arm raised 8 times for 4 knockouts and 4 submissions, leaving his 2011 debut as his only victory by decision.
In other words, the 145lbs Gavin “Guv’nor” Tucker is an inevitable featherweight force in the world of Canadian mixed martial arts, and as of today, he has officially been recognized by the industry-leading league from our neighbours to the south. Tucker, who proudly competes in affiliation with Titans Fitness Academy in Halifax, NS, posted a photo on Facebook this morning of him signing what appears to be contractual paperwork with the caption “Official. tuck your chins and hide your heels. The little Newfie just made the big show“.
Without directly dropping the acronym in the post, the UFC logo boldly appears across the top of the contract.
Tucker’s signing was reported this afternoon by MMA News.
Though no details of the deal have been confirmed at the present time, it is safe to say that Gavin “Guv’nor” Tucker’s 10th career fight will be an opportunity of unspeakable grandeur; especially for any small town fighter who has spent years of hard work and sacrifice for what is typically deemed by others as a “pipedream”.
We’ve reached out to the Guv’nor for his thoughts, and we will surely report back as more information becomes available. Until then, check out some of these videos of Tucker in action, and check out his Sherdog profile here.
