This year’s lineup could easily be considered one of the strongest in the festivals’ history. Having attracted acts like party-rap icon Danny Brown; hip-hop goliaths Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan; Canadian indie-rockers Tokyo Police Club, the influential folk-punk band Against Me!, and a fantastic array of talent from Halifax, New Brunswick, PEI and beyond — it’s clear that the folks behind the scenes aren’t interested in maintaining the status quo.
Crossed Wires’ eponymous EP could easily take the cake as the best release to come out of Atlantic Canada this past summer season. This debut offering from the Wires is nothing less than infectious and impressive without even considering the fact that it’s the first release of a project that’s only straddling a mere six months of existence. Despite being their earliest effort, the EP carries an audible chemistry that could be mistaken for a band that’s already seen the process a few times over.

Trees Speak Breeze is an alternative indie-rock project hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia. What started as a teenager’s basement solo project has recently transformed into something much greater; a full band, indie-rock anomaly. I sat down with Josh Horner, the backbone of the group to get the scoop on where the project is going.
On Tuesday, September 9th, 2014, the Halifax Municipal Council passed a motion by Waye Mason to take The Khyber off the “surplus status” death-list. After weeks of rallying and campaigning for support, it seems the people’s voices and hard work of the Khyber Arts Society (KAS) spirited a huge win for the Khyber Arts Society.
