Watch: Black Sabbath Live in Halifax (2014)
The world lost a true legend and rock & roll pioneer on July 22 with the passing of Ozzy Osbourne at age 76. Tragically, he died only weeks after Black Sabbath’s final bow—a massive farewell show in Birmingham, the city where it all began.
As the lead singer of Black Sabbath, Ozzy helped invent heavy metal, creating the dark, thunderous sound that would influence countless generations of musicians. His wild persona transcended Sabbath’s groundbreaking catalog through a legendary solo career in the 1980s and 90s, before unexpectedly becoming a reality TV pioneer with The Osbournes on MTV, proving his cultural impact reached far beyond music.
Recent decades saw Ozzy return to his roots, reuniting with Black Sabbath for global tours and capping their legacy with one last album, 13, in 2013.
Black Sabbath’s final 2014 tour was a celebration of nearly five decades of heavy history. 3/4 members of the original lineup reunited to deliver the songs that birthed an entire genre, giving fans around the world one more chance to witness the masters at work. It was both a victory lap and a testament to their enduring influence on rock and metal.
