Quick! Listen: Sea Dogs – ‘Mt. Scio’
Atlantic Canadian releases in 150 words or less…
The St. John’s Sea Dogs sounds like an ideal name for a sports team, and considering the sophomore album from this riff rock ensemble, we’re certain they can only be here to play hardball.
From the opening seconds of Mt. Scio, Sea Dogs explode with a flight of 70s guitar groove zest, and an unapologetic vocal delivery with comparative nods to a Layne Staley, a Chris Cornell, or a snarling Axel Rose. While retro hard rock fans will likely be thrilled by this 11 song endeavour, the Sea Dogs don’t feel like just another nostalgia act.
These are Sea Dogs, not copy cats, and they’ve seasoned their classic sounding hooks to hatch new hard rock territory.
