Bye Bye Bungas Pt. 1

St. John’s short-lived surfstrumental punkers Jonny & The Cowabungas are playing their final show on June 24th at Distortion, and to say it is sad to see them go is a painful understatement. The Bungas mean a lot to us here at Secret East. The five-piece came on the scene just as we first launched our webzine in 2014, and we followed closely from their peaking of curiosities at their first shows, to quickly becoming a St. John’s live favourite with a slew of noteworthy gigs and festival showcases. Jonny & The Cowabungas were one of the first Secret East “A Night In” sessions we produced, and they helped headline some of our favourite Secret East parties and events of 2015.

So, with the dissolution of our dearest friends, we dug into the Secret East TV video stacks for Pt. 1 of our Bye Bye Bungas series. Enjoy some unreleased footage of “Drunk on Wine”, The Cowabungas set opener at the Secret East Double Feature in April of 2015.
