R U Write?: We’re Now Accepting Your Poetry & Short Fiction Submissions

SENOTEBOOKHey Atlantic Canada,

R U Write?

By popular query and polite demand we are now opening up submissions for poetry and short fiction selections on the Secret East webzine, and we’re quite excited to crack the floodgates for all you delightful wordsmiths.

Previously unpublished? Fine by us – we make our decisions based on your work and not your resume.

We adhere to one main guideline:

Authors submitting work must be from, or currently residing in Atlantic Canada.

For EX: You’re from St. John’s, but you’ve been working up away in Alberta for six years – you’re still very eligible.

You’re from the America but have been living in Halifax for two years and three months – you’re still good.

You’re from Etobicoke and lived in New Brunswick for a few years in the 90’s and have felt a strange attachment ever since – fuck it, plead your case and we’ll probably fall for you.

For Poetry Submissions:

Our publication of poetry may occur at it’s maximum of one feature a week, perhaps less, depending on the volume of submissions.

We ask for the submission of 1-3 unpublished poems at a time accompanied by a biographical blurb and a high res photo.

We do accept simultaneous submissions but we ask to be alerted immediately if one of the reviewed pieces is published elsewhere.

Poetry submissions are to be sent to contact@secreteast.ca (make sure “Poetry” appears in the subject line.)

For Short Fiction Submissions:

Short Fic will be published less often than poetry with a maximum of 1-2 selections per month, depending on volume of submissions.

We ask for no more than 2 unpublished pieces of fiction per submission accompanied by a biographical blurb and a high res photo.

Though we do not have a minimum or maximum word count – the shorter the better. We’re more likely to publish a solid piece of flash fiction over your debut novella. That being said, we’re open minded and willing to read your work no matter the length.

We do accept simultaneous submissions but we ask to be alerted immediately if one of the reviewed pieces is published elsewhere.

Short Fiction submissions are to be sent to contact@secreteast.ca (make sure “Fiction” appears in the subject line.)

What We Do Not Publish:

Hate speech.

But we’ll read and consider most anything else.

Please:

Allow us a bit of time to get back to you! In some situations it may be a matter of weeks before we’re able to make a decision and formulate a response, so please be patient.

So c’mon, do the write thing.
